Fashion Forward: A STEAM Approach to Style Lead Teacher: Andrea Moore, celebrated fashion designer and local small business owner This syllabus combines creativity with STEAM elements to inspire future fashion designers while exploring the intersection of art, science, and technology. Students will explore: - The Science of Style - the role of different materials in fashion, scientific testing for desirable features like durability, color hold, form and fit - Threads Through Time - the history and cultural significance of fashion, iconic eras and how technology enhancements impacted fashion - Engineering in Design - basic pattern drafting, how geometry is used in design, the tools and technology of the trade - Art Meets Fashion - influential collaborations between artists and designers, the psychology of color in fashion. - The Future of Fashion - imagine and design future trends based on evolving society needs and tech advances such as 3D printing, wearable tech, and smart textiles. No Class on Feb18 (Winter Break) Meet Andrea Moore Andrea Moore, a proud local mom of three, is an accomplished fashion designer and founder of The Makers NY by MOORE Custom Goods, located at 132 Larchmont Avenue in Larchmont, NY. At her shop, Andrea showcases her stunning clothing designs and dives into “most things sewing related,” fostering creativity and craft within the community. Andrea’s journey in fashion began with her degree in fashion design from UNC-Greensboro and has since taken her to incredible heights. Her work has been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, and more. Andrea was named “Best Emerging Designer” shortly after opening her first boutique in Portland, Oregon, in 2014, which went on to win “Best Boutique” at the Portland Fashion and Style Awards. She has designed for renowned musicians and athletes, collaborated with global brands like Nike, Rolling Stone, and Adidas, and enjoys speaking on panels about sustainability and fashion. Andrea has taught trend forecasting at the Portland Fashion Institute, and remains a passionate mentor, taking pride in nurturing the next generation of designers. Through her work, she strives to spark creativity, curiosity, and community across both casual shoppers and aspiring local makers.
